CPEC's Sahiwal Power Plant Achieves 1252 MW Output

The Sahiwal Coal-Fired Power Plant has reaffirmed its position as a pillar of energy reliability in Pakistan by outperforming its benchmark in the Annual Capacity Test (ACT) for 2025. During an intensive six-hour full-load trial, the plant generated an impressive 1,252.03 megawatts—surpassing its assigned target of 1,243.517 MW. This performance was validated by regulatory authorities, including the CPPA-G, ISMO, and the National Grid Company, reflecting robust oversight and national compliance.

Operated by Huaneng Shandong Ruyi (Pakistan) Energy Pvt. Ltd., the plant has been delivering consistent electricity to the national grid since its commercial launch in October 2017. It has continually invested in digital upgrades, technical training, and system refinements to strengthen grid compatibility and operational safety.

Officials from grid stations in Yousafwala and Kasowal confirmed that the plant's ability to maintain both active and reactive power significantly enhances grid stability—reducing stress on transmission lines and ensuring better voltage and frequency control during peak hours.

The ACT evaluation involved top-tier regulatory and operational staff, including senior representatives from CPPA-G, ISMO, and grid stations. Their on-site supervision and technical scrutiny ensured the test met all national standards. The proactive involvement of Huaneng Shandong Ruyi’s senior leadership further underscored the company’s ongoing commitment to operational excellence and long-term energy resilience.

This successful ACT highlights the Sahiwal plant’s strategic role within the CPEC energy portfolio. Its performance sets a precedent for other power projects by showcasing how collaborative regulation, advanced infrastructure, and dedicated personnel can drive measurable results in Pakistan’s evolving energy landscape.
