A cohort of 100 young Pakistani agricultural graduates is set to leave for China this Sunday as part of the Prime Minister’s Special Capacity-Building Programme. This strategic move marks a pivotal effort in transforming Pakistan’s agriculture sector by embracing global learning and the adoption of innovative farming technologies.
According to the Ministry of National Food Security and Research (MNFSR), the delegation will undergo specialised training at the Southwest University of Science and Technology. This programme is a key component of a broader initiative aiming to train 1,000 Pakistani agriculture graduates at top Chinese academic institutions. The training focuses on advanced, climate-resilient, and technology-driven farming techniques intended to enhance productivity and sustainability back home.
At a pre-departure ceremony held at the MNFSR, Secretary Amir Muhyuddin commended the enthusiasm of the young professionals and highlighted the programme’s long-term national significance. “You are the ambassadors of Pakistan’s agricultural future,” he remarked, urging the participants to absorb the experience fully, stay disciplined, and act as cultural and professional bridges between Pakistan and China.
Other officials, including Additional Secretary Alam Zaib and Deputy Secretary Shafqat Abbas, briefed the group about the training objectives, learning modules, and support mechanisms in place. The initiative stems from the Prime Minister’s visit to the Yangling Agricultural Technology Demonstration Base in June 2024, where he envisioned international exposure as essential for revitalising Pakistan’s farming landscape.
The MNFSR is executing the programme in three batches in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), Ministry of IT (MoIT), National Information Technology Board (NITB), and the Embassy of Pakistan in Beijing. This cross-institutional effort promises not just technical uplift, but also stronger bilateral ties and a brighter agricultural future for Pakistan.
