PMLTC Supports Future Engineers with UET Scholarships

In a move that underscores the commitment to educational development within the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the Pak-Matiari Lahore Transmission Company (PMLTC) awarded ten scholarships to promising students of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore.

These annual scholarships are designed to uplift students pursuing engineering and technical education. During the award ceremony held on July 22 at UET, PMLTC Chairman Xiong Feng expressed that the initiative reflects the company's ongoing dedication to youth empowerment and cross-border knowledge sharing.

Chairman Xiong also revealed plans to expand the scholarship program in the coming years, noting that employment opportunities would be made available to scholarship recipients. “Engineers we’ve trained in China are now leading in HVDC expertise. We’re eager to continue supporting young talent like you,” he stated.

Established in 2015, PMLTC operates Pakistan’s first ±660kV high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission line, which spans 886 kilometers from Matiari to Lahore. Since its commissioning on September 1, 2021, the line has delivered over 53 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity. Boasting a 99.57% uptime, the project has significantly reduced power transmission losses, minimized coal usage, and helped cut carbon emissions—making a lasting impact on the national grid and Pakistan’s clean energy transition.
