China Explores Prefab Housing in Pakistan's Major Cities

A high-level Chinese business delegation, headed by Yao Yu, CEO of DongKai International Investment, met with Pakistan’s Minister for Housing and Works, Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada, in Islamabad to explore joint opportunities in the housing sector. The delegation, comprising top construction and tech firms, held discussions with senior officials including the Secretary of Housing and Works, the CEO of the Pakistan Housing Authority Foundation (PHAF), and the Director General of the Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA).

Minister Pirzada welcomed the delegation, highlighting the longstanding Pakistan-China friendship and the government's commitment to modernising the housing sector. He stressed the importance of adopting prefabricated and modular construction technologies to enhance project efficiency, sustainability, and affordability.

Yao Yu presented advanced housing models and modern construction techniques, proposing a Dragon Mart-style commercial hub in Pakistan—similar to the successful Dubai complex. This proposed project aims to boost bilateral trade, stimulate urban development, create jobs, and support small and medium enterprises.

Presentations from PHAF and FGEHA followed, outlining potential investment areas and public-private partnership models. Key strategic sites highlighted for development included Islamabad, Karachi, Quetta, Peshawar, Gwadar, and Gilgit-Baltistan, with an emphasis on long-term collaboration and infrastructure growth.
