The Balochistan government has announced prioritised resources for Gwadar's infrastructure development, with a strategic focus on urban rehabilitation, water supply, sports, and education. The announcement came during a high-level review meeting of the Gwadar Development Authority (GDA).
The meeting, chaired by Provincial Planning and Development Minister Mir Zahoor Buledi, conducted a comprehensive review of ongoing and completed development projects, the city's water supply situation, funding requirements for future development schemes, administrative matters, and the performance and improvement of the GDA School.
The session was attended by MPAs Maulana Hidayatur Rehman, Syed Zafar Ali Agha, and Engineer Abdul Majeed Badini, along with GDA Director General Mujeebur Rehman Qambrani, Chief Engineer Haji Syed Muhammad, and other concerned officials.
During the briefing, the GDA Director General delivered a detailed presentation on the authority's development initiatives, particularly highlighting ongoing and completed works under the Old Town Rehabilitation Project, improvements in the water distribution system, municipal services, and the overall performance of the authority.
The meeting was informed that the Old Town Rehabilitation Project represents a comprehensive master plan aimed at urban development, provision of basic civic amenities, and preservation of Gwadar's historical and cultural heritage. Under this project, construction, expansion, rehabilitation, and beautification of various city roads, streets, bazaars, educational institutions, graveyards, Eidgahs, and traffic intersections have been carried out, significantly improving the urban environment, traffic flow, and commercial activities.
The DG GDA reported that the authority has planted more than 5,000 trees across the city and is responsible for the operation and maintenance of various urban infrastructure facilities. These include approximately 31 kilometres of sewage drains, 23 kilometres of rainwater drainage channels, three sports stadiums, three public parks, over 250 kilometres of roads, the GDA School, GDA Hospital, and the Fish Landing Jetty. Municipal services are also continuously managing sanitation and maintenance of city avenues, beaches, and public spaces.
The meeting was further briefed on measures taken to improve water supply in Gwadar over the past year, underscoring the provincial government's commitment to addressing the city's critical infrastructure needs and enhancing the quality of life for residents.
