New China-Pakistan Roadmap 2025–2029 Sets Global Model for Cooperation

The China-Pakistan Action Plan on Building a Closer Community with a Shared Future (2025–2029), unveiled during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to Beijing, has elevated bilateral relations to unprecedented levels while opening new opportunities for both nations and the wider region, according to Prof. Cheng Xizhong, Senior Research Fellow at the Charhar Institute.

Prof. Cheng emphasized that the plan builds upon the “all-weather strategic cooperative partnership”, which has stood the test of time and is now globally acknowledged as a model relationship. In a period of global uncertainty, the roadmap reflects not only a strategic choice for both Islamabad and Beijing but also a response to the universal demand for peace and sustainable development.

On the economic front, the action plan aims to deepen trade, investment, and industrial cooperation within the framework of CPEC. It focuses on infrastructure, energy, and manufacturing projects while expanding into new trade sectors. Joint industrial parks, he noted, will play a central role in helping Pakistan modernise its industries and build resilience in the global economy.

Prof. Cheng also underlined that security cooperation will remain a key guarantee of progress, while people-to-people exchanges — particularly in education, youth, and cultural initiatives — will inject new vitality into the enduring friendship between the two nations.

Diplomatically, both countries are expected to coordinate more closely to amplify the voices of developing nations, uphold multilateralism, and strengthen regional peace through dialogue and consultation.

“The Action Plan sets out a comprehensive blueprint,” Prof. Cheng concluded. “Through joint efforts, China and Pakistan are poised to achieve significant results across political, economic, security, and cultural spheres while contributing meaningfully to global peace and stability.”
