CPEC-Backed Solar Tube Wells to Strengthen Water Infrastructure in KP

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is advancing a major tube-well solarization initiative under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), with the goal of improving access to reliable and sustainable drinking water across the province.

Provincial Minister for Public Health Engineering, Fazal Shakoor Khan, shared the progress while addressing a Khuli Kachehri during his visit to Swabi. The gathering was attended by local residents, community representatives, social figures, and officials from the Public Health Engineering Department.

According to the minister, the first phase of the programme includes 100 approved solarization schemes, with work already completed on 10 projects. The government also plans to significantly expand the initiative in the next phase by adding 700 more tube wells to the programme.

He noted that while the provincial government has already allocated its financial contribution, the release of foreign funding has been delayed, affecting the pace of implementation. However, the government is actively working to resolve the matter and secure the remaining funds as soon as possible.

Fazal Shakoor Khan stated that once funding is released, construction and installation work on the remaining projects will move forward rapidly while meeting the required quality standards. The initiative is expected to provide affordable, uninterrupted, and sustainable drinking water services to communities throughout the province.

The minister added that converting tube wells to solar energy will reduce electricity costs, improve energy efficiency, strengthen water supply infrastructure, and support better utilization of public resources. He reaffirmed the provincial government's commitment to enhancing public services and expanding access to clean drinking water for the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
