Dasu HPP Completes LHV Training Program for Upper Kohistan Women

WAPDA’s Dasu Hydropower Project (DHPP) has completed the professional training of 31 women from Upper Kohistan as Lady Health Visitors (LHVs) under a Rs58.8 million corporate social responsibility initiative focused on improving healthcare access in the project region.

According to an official statement, the women received formal healthcare training at the Abbottabad Public Health School as part of DHPP’s broader community development and social welfare program. The initiative has been designed to strengthen maternal and child healthcare services in Upper Kohistan, where many remote communities continue to face limited access to medical facilities and healthcare professionals.

Officials said the newly trained Lady Health Visitors will play an important role in supporting local communities by providing basic healthcare services, maternal and child health guidance, awareness campaigns, and community-based health support activities. The initiative is expected to improve healthcare outreach for women and children living in underserved areas of the district.

The program also reflects wider efforts by the Dasu Hydropower Project to contribute to social development alongside infrastructure and energy generation objectives. Through its CSR activities, the project has been implementing various initiatives aimed at supporting education, healthcare, hygiene awareness, and community well-being in the surrounding region.

In April, DHPP organized a Health and Hygiene Kit Distribution Drive at Government High School Shatial as part of efforts to promote student health and awareness regarding personal hygiene practices.

During the campaign, 140 health and hygiene kits were distributed among students from grades six to ten. The kits included essential hygiene items intended to encourage cleanliness, healthy routines, and the prevention of common illnesses among schoolchildren.

Students participating in the program also attended awareness sessions focused on the importance of regular handwashing, personal care, and maintaining a clean environment as part of healthy daily living practices.

Teachers and local community members welcomed the initiative and appreciated the project’s continued engagement in social welfare activities. According to participants, such programs help improve student health, confidence, and school attendance while also raising awareness among families and local residents.

The Dasu Hydropower Project, one of Pakistan’s major hydropower developments, continues to implement community-focused initiatives alongside its infrastructure activities. Officials say these programs are aimed at supporting sustainable social development and improving the quality of life for communities residing in the project area.

Through healthcare training, educational support, and hygiene awareness campaigns, DHPP is working to strengthen local capacity and contribute to long-term community well-being in Upper Kohistan.
