The Suki Kinari Hydropower Station, a key project under the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), has successfully completed its first full year of commercial operations. Since its inauguration in September 2024, the 884 MW plant has generated more than 2.7 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, strengthening Pakistan’s national grid and reducing dependency on imported fossil fuels.
To commemorate the milestone, SK Hydro held a Media Open Day at the new CEEC Pakistan Regional Office. Leading journalists were given insights into the project’s performance and toured facilities such as the CEEC Corporate Culture Exhibition Hall and the upcoming “Smart Hydropower” centralized control room, designed to further improve efficiency.
Officials highlighted the plant’s growing role in Pakistan’s renewable energy transition and diversification of the power mix. Alongside energy generation, the project has supported local communities by employing over 6,000 workers at peak construction and investing in initiatives such as afforestation, education support, and a trout hatchery to preserve ecological balance.
Infrastructure development has also been advanced, with improvements to the N15 highway boosting connectivity and regional economic activity. Media representatives praised the high-quality construction, operational excellence, and intelligent management systems, recognizing Suki Kinari as a model of CPEC cooperation that combines clean power with social and economic progress.
