Gwadar Development Authority Completes Sports Facility Upgrade Under Old Town Project

The Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) has completed the construction, expansion and rehabilitation of the Jan Volleyball and Futsal Ground, marking a significant step forward in improving sports facilities and expanding recreational opportunities for young people in the port city.

The facility, which has been upgraded under the GDA's Old Town Rehabilitation Project, now offers improved and expanded space for volleyball, football, futsal and a range of other sporting activities. The rehabilitation work includes enhanced playing surfaces, better spectator areas and upgraded infrastructure designed to meet modern standards for community sports facilities.

The project is part of a broader initiative by the GDA to strengthen sports infrastructure across Gwadar and encourage youth participation in healthy and constructive activities. By providing well-maintained venues for regular training and competition, the authority aims to create better opportunities for emerging athletes to develop their skills and pursue sporting excellence at regional and national levels.

Beyond the Jan Ground, development and improvement work is continuing at several other sports facilities throughout the city. These include the Senator Muhammad Ishaq Cricket Stadium, a key venue for cricket enthusiasts in the region; the Baba Bizenjo Football Stadium, which serves as a hub for football activities; the Sorg Dil Football Ground; and the Gwadar Development Authority Public School Football Ground, which provides dedicated playing space for school-level competitions and training.

Work is also underway to develop the Government Model High School Ground, further expanding the city's growing portfolio of sports infrastructure. The project is expected to provide additional playing space for school-aged children and contribute to the overall enhancement of Gwadar's public recreational assets.

The ongoing projects are aimed at increasing public access to sporting facilities, encouraging greater participation among young people across all neighborhoods, and providing local athletes with improved environments to pursue and enhance their sporting abilities. For a city undergoing rapid transformation as a key node in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, investment in community sports infrastructure reflects a commitment to holistic urban development that prioritizes quality of life alongside economic growth.

Local residents and sports enthusiasts have welcomed the rehabilitation of the Jan Ground, viewing it as a positive development that will benefit not only current athletes but also future generations. The availability of modern, well-maintained sports facilities is expected to foster a culture of fitness, teamwork and healthy competition, contributing to the social and physical well-being of Gwadar's youthful population.
