Pakistan, China Expand Agricultural Cooperation with Modern Grain Storage Initiative
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has welcomed increased Chinese investment in Pakistan’s agricultural sector, highlighting that collaboration with leading Chinese companies will play a vital role in modernizing the country’s grain storage infrastructure and strengthening long-term food security.
The prime minister made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation from Chinese agricultural technology company FAMSUN, led by its Chief Executive Officer, Jack Chen. The discussions focused on plans to upgrade Pakistan’s existing grain storage facilities with advanced technologies and environmentally sustainable solutions.
Shehbaz Sharif noted that Pakistan and China share a longstanding strategic partnership, adding that stronger business-to-business cooperation would further deepen economic relations between the two countries. He said investments in modern agricultural infrastructure would not only improve food preservation but also support the broader development of Pakistan’s agricultural economy.
Welcoming FAMSUN’s proposal to transform traditional grain storage centers into state-of-the-art facilities, the prime minister said the initiative would introduce modern technologies capable of improving storage efficiency, reducing post-harvest losses, and enhancing the country’s overall food supply chain.
He also emphasized that infrastructure development should be accompanied by technology transfer and comprehensive training programs to equip Pakistani professionals with the expertise needed to manage and operate advanced agricultural systems. Building local technical capacity, he said, remains essential for ensuring the long-term sustainability of such projects.
During the meeting, FAMSUN CEO Jack Chen reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting Pakistan through innovative grain storage solutions, technology sharing, and workforce development initiatives. He recalled his earlier meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during the premier’s recent visit to China, noting that the engagement laid the foundation for practical cooperation in Pakistan’s agriculture sector.
According to a briefing presented during the meeting, FAMSUN plans to establish a demonstration center in Pakistan dedicated to developing green silos while upgrading existing grain storage facilities into environmentally friendly silo systems. These modern storage solutions are expected to improve grain preservation, increase operational efficiency, and promote sustainable agricultural practices.
The briefing also highlighted that FAMSUN and the Green Pakistan Initiative have already signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation in agriculture and food security. The agreement reflects the growing momentum of Pakistan-China collaboration in promoting innovation, sustainability, and technological advancement across the agricultural sector.
The meeting was attended by Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, Minister of State for Finance Bilal Kayani, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries Haroon Akhtar, and other senior government officials.
FAMSUN is a leading Chinese company specializing in agricultural technology, animal feed production, grain storage systems, and food processing solutions. Its planned investment in Pakistan is expected to contribute significantly to the modernization of agricultural infrastructure while reinforcing bilateral cooperation under the broader Pakistan-China economic partnership.
