Pakistan, China Strengthen Healthcare Cooperation with Spinal Surgery MoU
Gomal Medical College (GMC) in Dera Ismail Khan has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Third People’s Hospital of Henan Province, China, to establish academic and clinical collaboration in minimally invasive spinal surgery. The agreement marks another milestone in the growing healthcare partnership between Pakistan and China, with a focus on advancing medical education, research, and specialized patient care.
Dean and Chief Executive of Gomal Medical College, Prof. Dr. Naseem Saba, said the collaboration will facilitate the exchange of clinical expertise, joint research initiatives, faculty development, advanced surgical training, and the adoption of modern treatment techniques. The partnership is expected to strengthen institutional ties while creating new opportunities for innovation and knowledge sharing in the field of neurosurgery.
According to Prof. Dr. Naseem Saba, the agreement reflects a shared commitment by both institutions to improving healthcare standards through international collaboration. By combining expertise and resources, the partnership aims to enhance professional development for medical practitioners and improve patient outcomes through the application of advanced minimally invasive spinal surgery techniques.
Under the agreement, Dr. Nafis Ahmad and Dr. Tufail, Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at Gomal Medical College, were authorized by the Dean to sign the MoU on behalf of the institution. The signing ceremony was attended by the President of the Third People’s Hospital of Henan Province, members of its Board of Directors, and faculty from the Department of Neurosurgery, highlighting the importance both institutions attach to the collaboration.
The Pakistani delegation included Hospital Director Dr. Farukh Jameel, Managing Director Dr. Khalid Mehmood, Professor of Neurosurgery Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hamayun, Associate Dean for Postgraduate Medical Education, and Dean Prof. Dr. Naseem Saba. Their participation underscored the shared vision of strengthening medical cooperation between Pakistan and China through education, clinical practice, and research.
Prof. Dr. Naseem Saba expressed confidence that the partnership would extend beyond spinal surgery in the future, opening avenues for broader collaboration in medical education, faculty exchange, scientific research, and advanced clinical care. She noted that such initiatives contribute to the continuous development of Pakistan’s healthcare sector by enabling local medical professionals to benefit from international expertise and cutting-edge practices.
