Pakistan-China Trade Gains Momentum as Exports Reach $1.87 Billion

Pakistan's exports to China recorded remarkable growth during the first half of 2026, underscoring the strengthening trade relationship between the two countries and reflecting the expanding opportunities created through long-term economic cooperation.

According to data released by the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC), Pakistan exported goods worth $1.874 billion to China between January and June 2026, representing a 50.7% increase compared with $1.244 billion during the same period in 2025.

The upward trend remained consistent throughout the six-month period, with March 2026 emerging as the strongest month for exports. Shipments reached $361.37 million, marking an impressive 84.1% year-on-year increase from $196.16 million recorded in March 2025.

Much of this growth was driven by Pakistan's agro-industrial sector, particularly exports of sugar, bagasse and other agricultural products. Exporters expanded shipments of raw materials and intermediate goods to Chinese sugar mills, biomass facilities and manufacturing industries, benefiting from well-established supply chains and growing industrial demand.

A senior official from Pakistan's Ministry of Commerce said the significant increase in exports reflects the maturity of the economic partnership between Pakistan and China. The official noted that Pakistani businesses have strengthened their position as dependable suppliers for China's manufacturing and energy sectors, particularly in industries linked to sugar processing and biomass utilization.

The expansion has also been supported by improvements in cross-border banking and trade financing. Pakistani exporters now have greater access to Chinese financial services, including lease financing facilities and extended credit arrangements offered through major commercial banks. These measures have enhanced liquidity, reduced trade barriers and enabled exporters to increase shipments more efficiently.

As Pakistan continues to strengthen trade with China through enhanced industrial collaboration and improved financial connectivity, the positive export performance is expected to further reinforce economic cooperation while creating new opportunities for businesses across both markets.
