Air Indus Announces Comeback with Gwadar Among Key Domestic Destinations
Pakistani private airline Air Indus is preparing to return to the country’s domestic aviation market after an 11-year suspension, marking a significant development for Pakistan’s air transport sector. The airline plans to restore scheduled passenger services by reconnecting major cities across the country, with Gwadar included among its key destinations as part of the initial phase of operations.
According to the airline, its revival strategy will begin with domestic flights operating from Karachi to major commercial and regional hubs, including Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Multan, Gwadar, and Skardu. Additional flights between Quetta and Islamabad are also planned, further enhancing connectivity across Pakistan.
The return of Air Indus is expected to improve travel options for business and leisure passengers while supporting regional economic activity. The inclusion of Gwadar in the airline’s domestic network is particularly significant, as the port city continues to emerge as an important center for trade, investment, tourism, and economic development. Enhanced air connectivity will provide greater accessibility for investors, entrepreneurs, and visitors traveling to the region.
To support its renewed operations, Air Indus plans to operate a modern fleet of narrow-body jet aircraft capable of serving both domestic routes and future international destinations. In a later phase, the airline intends to introduce ATR 72-600 aircraft to strengthen regional connectivity, particularly to northern destinations and smaller airports where turboprop operations are more efficient.
Following the successful launch of domestic services, Air Indus plans to expand its network internationally. Subject to regulatory approvals, the airline aims to introduce direct flights from Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, and Peshawar to major Gulf destinations, including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Doha, Kuwait City, and Muscat. The expansion reflects the airline’s long-term strategy to meet growing travel demand between Pakistan and the Gulf region while supporting business, tourism, and overseas Pakistani communities.
Air Indus suspended operations in 2015 after revisions to Pakistan’s aviation policy required scheduled passenger airlines to maintain a minimum fleet of three operational aircraft. Since then, the company has undertaken extensive planning to meet regulatory requirements and prepare for its return to the skies.
The airline has stated that safety, operational reliability, and customer service will remain central to its renewed operations. By modernizing its fleet and expanding its route network in phases, Air Indus aims to contribute to Pakistan’s growing aviation sector while improving domestic and regional connectivity.
The planned relaunch comes at a time when Pakistan is witnessing renewed investment in transportation and infrastructure. For emerging destinations such as Gwadar, increased domestic air services are expected to complement ongoing economic initiatives, improve accessibility, and strengthen the city's role as a strategic gateway for commerce and tourism.
