Sindh Governor Muhammad Nehal Hashmi and China’s Consul General Yang Yundong have agreed to accelerate development initiatives under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, reinforcing their shared commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.

During a meeting at the Governor House, both leaders discussed fast-tracking key infrastructure projects in Sindh while encouraging increased Chinese investment in the province. The discussions highlighted the importance of strengthening economic collaboration to support regional growth and connectivity.

A key area of focus was Pakistan’s emerging blue economy, which holds growing strategic and economic significance. Both sides explored opportunities to deepen cooperation in maritime resources, recognizing the potential for long-term economic benefits.

The meeting also emphasized youth development and educational collaboration. Both parties agreed to expand exchange programmes, increase scholarship opportunities, and accelerate joint initiatives in the education sector. In addition, cooperation in the mining and minerals sector was identified as a priority area for future growth.

Governor Hashmi stressed the importance of leveraging China’s advanced agricultural technologies to enhance productivity and strengthen Sindh’s rural economy. He noted that initiatives like the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme are equipping young people with skills aligned with market demands, contributing to economic development.

To further boost economic engagement, the governor announced plans to host an investment conference aimed at promoting joint ventures between Pakistani and Chinese investors. He highlighted the importance of strengthening investor collaboration, particularly in the context of evolving global economic dynamics.

“Pakistan and China share common friends and challenges,” Hashmi remarked, underlining the depth and reliability of the bilateral partnership. He acknowledged China’s consistent support for Pakistan as a reflection of longstanding strategic ties.

Consul General Yang Yundong described Pakistan as a close and dependable partner, noting that China’s blue economy has surpassed one trillion yuan in value, presenting significant opportunities for collaboration. He also highlighted recent initiatives by the Chinese Consulate, including a scholarship seminar attended by representatives from 30 Pakistani universities, comprising vice chancellors, faculty members, and students.

The discussion further underscored the importance of sub-national cooperation. Karachi and Shanghai continue to maintain sister-city relations, while Sindh and Hubei are recognized as sister provinces. Both sides reiterated their commitment to strengthening these linkages to enhance cultural and economic exchanges.

The Chinese envoy extended an invitation to Governor Hashmi to visit Shanghai, signaling continued high-level engagement and a shared vision to deepen Pakistan-China relations through regional cooperation and sustained dialogue.
