China has officially launched the Initiative for International Cooperation on Green Shipping Corridor during the 2025 North Bund Forum in Shanghai, marking a major step toward building a greener and more sustainable global maritime industry. Spearheaded by the Ministry of Transport, the initiative aims to strengthen international collaboration and promote eco-friendly practices within global shipping networks.

The framework sets out seven strategic measures designed to enhance cooperation on green shipping corridors. These include expanding corridors in phases, accelerating the adoption of low-carbon and zero-emission vessels, developing near-zero-carbon ports, and improving green fuel supply capacity. Additionally, the initiative encourages stronger partnerships between governments and markets, the sharing of best practices, and continuous innovation to drive sustainable growth across the maritime sector.
At the forum, several achievements were showcased, including the establishment of a green shipping corridor between Qingdao Port and the Port of Hamburg in Germany—a significant milestone in fostering cleaner and smarter international trade routes.
China continues to lead globally in maritime connectivity, maintaining the top position for several consecutive years. Its ports are actively advancing the construction of green infrastructure, particularly in Shanghai and Ningbo-Zhoushan, where green fuel supply systems are being rapidly developed.
The 2025 North Bund Forum, jointly hosted by the Ministry of Transport and the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, serves as a global platform to accelerate the transition toward a more sustainable and cooperative maritime future.
