In a bid to accelerate agricultural transformation, a high-level Pakistani delegation comprising agricultural experts and enterprise leaders visited China’s Henan Province for a week-long mission. This strategic trip, aligned with the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), focused on enhancing collaboration in agricultural science, education, and technology.
The delegation began its journey at the Zhengzhou Garden Expo, where members explored modern tissue culture laboratories and nursery bases. These facilities showcased China’s advanced methods in plant propagation and nursery management, offering insights into innovation-led horticulture systems.
Education formed a core component of the exchange. The Pakistani team toured schools in the Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone to assess the integration of ecological farming into student curricula. Delegates expressed interest in replicating such educational models in Gwadar to boost environmental and agricultural literacy among young learners.
At the Henan Academy of Sciences, the group held detailed discussions with the Laser Manufacturing Research Institute. Focused on laser-based agricultural applications, the talks explored potential uses in crop monitoring and precision farming, particularly relevant to Gwadar's climate and soil conditions.
A vital visit was made to Zhongmu County’s garlic planting base. Here, the delegates observed high-yield cultivation, modern harvesting equipment, and streamlined post-harvest processing—practices that could directly uplift Gwadar’s farming standards.
The signing of a Sino-Pak Scientific and Technological Cooperation Agreement at Henan Agricultural University marked a key achievement. This agreement centres on introducing and cultivating Paulownia trees and other species, aiming to support sustainable development and technology sharing through joint research initiatives.
The visit also had cultural and commercial dimensions. The delegation toured the Shaolin Temple and engaged in business networking with Yulin Holding to discuss agricultural investment opportunities in Pakistan.
Owais Mir, one of the delegates, expressed optimism about the outcomes. “These learnings can help position Gwadar as an agricultural innovation hub while addressing food security through sustainable practices,” he noted.
Experts see such exchanges as instrumental in driving agricultural modernisation in Pakistan. With CPEC’s infrastructure and institutional support, Gwadar is poised to become a focal point of eco-agriculture and tech-led farming.
