Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar chaired a pivotal high-level meeting to address land allocation for the Gwadar Shipyard, a project considered vital for Pakistan’s strategic and economic growth. The meeting highlighted the shipyard's importance in boosting regional development, unlocking potential revenue channels, and ensuring inclusive progress through active engagement with local communities.
The Ministry of Defence Production delivered an in-depth presentation showcasing data on possible locations and associated economic benefits. Multiple land options were discussed, each evaluated for logistical feasibility and revenue prospects. To uphold transparency and support objective decision-making, Senator Dar instructed that a third-party professional evaluation be conducted for all shortlisted sites.
In a move to secure regional collaboration and ensure local communities are not sidelined, Senator Dar reaffirmed that the shipyard's development would be a consultative process. The government aims to achieve local consensus and maximize socioeconomic returns for Balochistan, especially Gwadar.
Attendees of the meeting included the Chief Minister of Balochistan, federal ministers responsible for Defence Production, Planning and Development, Maritime Affairs, as well as senior officials like Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa, the Secretary of Maritime Affairs, MPA Hidayatullah, and the Chairman of Gwadar Port Authority.
