China reaffirmed its commitment to Pakistan on Thursday, emphasising cooperation in promoting regional peace, development, and stability. The two countries share a long-standing strategic partnership spanning trade, energy, defence, and infrastructure.

During his visit to Islamabad, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister’s House, where he praised Pakistan as an “ironclad friend” and “all-weather strategic partner.” The meeting was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, and senior cabinet members.

Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed gratitude to China for its consistent support in safeguarding Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and development. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for China’s core issues and reiterated commitment to strengthen their All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership.

Shehbaz lauded President Xi Jinping’s leadership in deepening Pakistan-China friendship and recalled his cordial meeting with him in Beijing last year. The Prime Minister said he was looking forward to his upcoming visit to China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit and the 80th anniversary of China’s victory in the Anti-Fascist War. He highlighted Pakistan’s eagerness to expand cooperation with China in trade, investment, ICT, agriculture, mining, and particularly under the CPEC Phase-II framework.

Wang Yi also met President Asif Ali Zardari at the President’s House. President Zardari reaffirmed that Pakistan and China were “iron brothers” and said friendship with China remains the cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy. He also thanked China for its support on issues such as Kashmir and conveyed condolences over recent floods in Beijing and Gansu.

Marking the upcoming 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026, President Zardari called it an opportunity to pass on the traditions of Pakistan-China friendship to future generations. He underscored the immense strategic importance of CPEC in strengthening regional connectivity and economic integration.

Wang Yi highlighted that China and Pakistan share a common vision for a peaceful and prosperous future, built on trust, credibility, and all-weather partnership.
