GDA Plans Expansion and Modernization of Gwadar Jetties

The Director General of the Gwadar Development Authority (GDA), Moinur Rehman Khan, has announced that Gwadar’s jetties will soon operate under a structured business model to ensure financial stability and long-term growth. Chairing a meeting attended by senior officials including Director Town Planning Shahid Ali, Project Director Sarbandar Jetty Muhammad Hanif, and Chief Engineer Haji Syed Muhammad, he emphasized that adopting a revenue-based approach would not only strengthen GDA but also improve services for the local fishing community.

The meeting reviewed several critical aspects including expansion projects, repair and maintenance works, dredging operations, and the integration of modern facilities into the jetties. The Director General highlighted that GDA has already taken significant steps to uplift the fishing sector by providing free facilities through these jetties. With upcoming expansions, fishermen will benefit from more efficient operations, better infrastructure, and enhanced accessibility.

Serious concern was also raised about individuals placing nets, tools, and heavy equipment permanently on the Sarbandar Jetty, causing difficulties for fishermen and structural damage to the facility. Authorities were instructed to ensure the immediate removal of such obstructions, warning that strict action would be taken against violators. The move reflects GDA’s commitment to preserving infrastructure, supporting fishermen, and paving the way for a sustainable and modernized jetty system in Gwadar.
