Gwadar Port authorities have reached an agreement with Customs Transit Trade officials to strengthen institutional coordination and eliminate operational obstacles hampering the movement of commercial cargo to Iran through the Gabd-Rimdan border crossing, according to reports.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between Gwadar Port Chairman Noor-ul-Haq Baloch and Director General Customs Transit Trade Irfan Javed, in which arrangements for cargo transportation, transit trade, customs clearance, and other cross-border commercial matters were comprehensively reviewed.
Chairman Baloch underscored the importance of improving facilitation mechanisms, ensuring transparency, and enhancing coordination among relevant institutions to expand transit and border trade through Gwadar Port. The meeting was informed that, despite directions issued by the Ministry of Commerce and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), several operational difficulties continued to affect border trade and related commercial activities linked to the port.
To address these challenges, participants agreed to convene a joint meeting of stakeholders next Thursday to examine the outstanding issues and develop practical measures for their resolution. Officials from Customs, representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Gwadar Port, traders associated with the Gabd-Rimdan crossing, and other relevant stakeholders are expected to attend.
The proposed session will review obstacles affecting transit and border trade, consider possible solutions, and determine further steps to improve cargo handling and customs clearance procedures. Officials emphasised that stronger coordination among the institutions involved would be essential for improving trade facilitation and enabling Gwadar Port to assume a greater role in regional transit and cross-border commercial activity.
